Feng Shui Basics

There are many things that you can do right now to support and enhance your living space.  A common problem in many homes is the presence of ‘clutter’. It is no coincidence that people are making careers of cleaning clutter!  The presence of clutter is agitating, increases our nervousness and confusion, and gets in our way.  It inhibits the flow of energy in our lives.  Spend time each day to clear it away.

Removing superfluous items from our homes also helps to clear pathways in and around our space.  Our rooms should be easy to navigate, pathways should clearly indicate which way to go, and movement around our furnishings should be uninhibiting.  Remember the most important element in the home is YOU -- your experience of the space is the main focus of Pyramid Feng Shui.

Make sure the lighting in your house is supportive of the activities in specific areas.  There are many work areas in the kitchen, for example, and area lighting is critical in order to enhance the creative activities that take place there.  Ample lighting above/near the stove, counters and sinks bolsters our efforts. Also, be sure that reading lamps behind chairs/couches are high enough and positioned in such a way as to not create shadows on the material in hand.  At a desk, it is important to have a desk lamp on the left side (if you are right handed) so as not to cast a shadow on the work that you are doing.

Lighting also creates a mood.  Whether we are sharing a friendly meal at our kitchen table and we want the lighting to be bright and cheery, or a more formal event in the dining area where we want to dim the lights or use candle light to dramatize the affair, lighting must appropriately reflect the circumstances.
